Kate Bush – Hammer Horror (1978)

Keith MacMillan

A gothic early single from her 1978 album *Lionheart*, “Hammer Horror” tells the eerie tale of an actor haunted by guilt and ghosts after replacing a deceased friend in a play. The minimalist promo video, directed by Keef (Keith MacMillan), features Bush alongside a masked dancer performing against stark black backgrounds—enhancing the song’s theatrical horror atmosphere. Though it charted modestly (#44 UK), the track’s dramatic visuals and cinematic storytelling marked a creative evolution for the teenage artist.
