Al’Tarba – Infected Streets
Al’Tarba – Infected Streets (2017)
Directed by: Yoann Vellaud
After a decade of recording and performing in Europe, with five well-received full-lengths and two EPs to his name, French electronic/hip hop artist Al’Tarba is getting set to make his introduction to American audiences with La Nuit Se Léve (The Night Rises). Al’Tarba’s production, which has drawn comparisons to DJ Shadow and RJD2, blends abrasive and melodic components on the new record into a hip hop reimagining of anti-hero noir. “When people listen to this record, I want them to see Travis Bickle prowling around Gotham City with four droogs in town,” Al’Tarba says of La Nuit Se Léve.
He has been successively considered as a pure Hip-Hop beatmaker, a dark, almost horrocore artist – in the same style as Stoupe, and then, following the success of records like Mushroom Burger, Petite Maline and Sexy Coccinelle, as an energetic electro composer similar to Chinese Man. He creates sound with increasing finesse and tact, sampling music and vocals synchronized to within a thousandth of a second: the atmosphere is both dark and dirty but never neglects the melody. It’s a soundscape universe. Today Al’Tarba shares the dark, futuristic video for “Infected Streets” starring French actor Slimane Dazi with Hip Hop DX. You can watch on YouTube. ‘Le Nuit Se Lève’ is out 4/7/17 on legendary Paris-based hip-hop, electronic label I.O.T Records.
“Infected Streets” is intended to be a horrifying clip. History projects us in 2037 and tells us of the murderous wandering of a man at the end, wrecked by life – Slimane, who no longer recognizes himself in a dehumanized society. This determined man, therefore, goes to the court of a night, to cross the reflection of all that he rejects and despises above all in this world without a soul. Lost in his torment, Slimane awakens an inner demon who will follow him to the track during this murderous journey. “
