Blancmange’s “Waves,” released on January 21, 1983, is a poignant track from their debut album, *Happy Families*. The song, penned by Neil Arthur and Stephen Luscombe, showcases the band’s orchestral pop sensibilities. Upon its release, “Waves” reached number 19 on the UK Singles Chart, remaining there for nine weeks. The accompanying music video, directed by Clive Richardson, complements the song’s introspective nature. In a 2016 interview, Neil Arthur reflected on the song’s creation, recalling how he wrote “Waves” during a summer job where he spent most of his time in a caravan, handing out concrete slabs to builders.
