CuckooLander – MotherNature
CuckooLander – MotherNature (2015)
Directed by: Common Works
Following recent studio sessions with the likes of Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend, and producer Daniel Ledinsky (Tove Lo, TV On The Radio), CuckooLander today announces the release of brand new single ‘Mother Nature’, out 13th November.
Pulsating with 80s riffs and a twisted Chloe Sevigny meets David Byrne cool, ‘Mother Nature’ explores a fascination for animals and the universe with a refreshingly unique view of the world around us.
In the words of vocalist Holly Hardy
“This song is a tribute to Nature. I have always found it hard to express what nature means to me but after finding out some really sad family news, I found spending time in nature and understanding nature offered me a sense of serenity and spirituality, similar to what i imagine religion offers people.”
A striking visual statement, and the brain child of Holly herself, the video re-imagines National Geographic with a Roxy Music colour palette.
“With the video we wanted to bring back elements of educational videos you would watch at school mixed with retro TV shows like Art Attack, Blue Peter,The Really Wild Show and Newsround. We mixed some 80’s analog documentary footage with our own footage just because i wanted to go on a woodland hunt to find things like odd pieces of wood, colourful eggs and skulls. My pet snails Party Boy and Mingey also take starring roles in the video and totally outshine me.”
Having already supported both The Libertines and Charli XCX, and most recently played a Red Bull Future Underground show with the latter (alongside Lion Babe), upcoming live dates include a headline show at The Lexington and a show supporting Little May at Bush Hall.
