Dreamtrak – Do Re Mi (2015)

Dreamtrak has shared a brand new video for “Do Re Mi,” the centrepiece from his self-titled debut EP (out now on Double Denim Records).

“Made with old video synthesis kit, it starts off like a Ceefax page having a meltdown and things only get weirder,” said Wonderland Magazine, who premiered the video.

“I definitely was influenced by the more recent Alan Braxe stuff, and also by Blanck Mass,” says Dreamtrak (real name Oliver Horton). “I wanted it to be kinda heavy and a bit unsettling whilst also being euphoric. Do Re Mi is actually at 130bpm so it should mix into a trance set pretty well.”

Horton’s music as Dreamtrak has been steadily surfacing online over the past 12 months, winning over the likes of Pitchfork with “Contemporary,” an excellent, gloopy deconstruction of modern electronic music that conjures a strange euphoria. Another single, “Odyssey, Pt. 2” caught the ear of PC Music svengali A.G. Cook whose remix of the track still stands as one of the micro-genre’s best moments.

Horton’s debut Dreamtrak EP (Double Denim Records) is a collection of intriguing detours into the world of dance music: a five song survey of electronic music from the view of his studio is a fascinating, quirky take on some familiar sounds twisted into his own unique mould. The sense you get is of a craftsman, carefully mapping a route from ideas that seem simple in genesis – an Abba song, contemporary dance music, or the timeless musical syllables of Do Re Mi – but wind down in ever more complex and exciting ways.

This video was made entirely with the Fairlight CVI and BPMC Fluxus.
