Greyson Chance – Hellboy (2021)
Directed by: Grace Lee, Sila Lee
Hellboy is a dynamic track by American singer-songwriter Greyson Chance, released on April 23, 2021, as the second single from his EP *Trophies*. The song showcases a transformation from his earlier, more introspective work to an upbeat, dance-pop sound. Lyrically, “Hellboy” explores themes of confidence and self-expression, embodying an alter ego that Chance describes as a “super-confident version” of himself. This persona reflects the energy he channels during live performances, aiming to reconnect with his audience after a period away from the stage. The inspiration for “Hellboy” stemmed from a unique experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. While recording in Nashville, Chance purchased a pair of tall red leather boots from a thrift store. Wearing them in the studio sparked creativity, leading to the song’s development in about 40 minutes. The boots symbolized a bold, expressive side that Chance wanted to convey through the track. The accompanying music video, directed by siblings Grace and Sila Lee, was filmed in Los Angeles. Released on April 28, 2021, the video complements the song’s energetic and confident themes, featuring vibrant visuals and dynamic choreography.
