Brooklyn electro-pop duo Matt and Kim have just launched a brand new video for ‘Let’s Run Away’, a track off their new EP WE WERE THE WEIRDOS. Known for their inventive video concepts (and clocking up over 42 million YouTube views and counting), the video was shot and produced entirely by the band with a GoPro camera using a method dubbed the “Centriphone” or “CentriPro” technique.
The technique involves attaching a filming device to fishing wire which is used to swing the device around in a circular motion in order to capture a 360° shot. Matt and Kim used this to film themselves dancing on rooftops, running through the streets of Brooklyn, spraying bottles of champagne along the riverfront, throwing water balloons, tossing their own cash into the wind, and partaking in other fun, entertaining scenarios.
Matt of Matt and Kim said of the video, “A wooden coat hanger, some fishing wire and a GoPro… that’s what we used to shoot our latest music video. No we haven’t been watching a lot of MacGyver (I mean that dude could have made a CAR out of those three things) But we did see the camera technique, discovered earlier this year by Nicolas Vuignier whilst skiing, which he coined “Centriphone”. If you don’t know about it, think of it like a poor man’s version of that trick in The Matrix movies where the camera spins around Keanu Reeves and he’s all like ‘Woah’. We had such a great time shooting this…Just the two of us with a camera on a clothes hanger, running around Brooklyn like a couple of idiots”
Followed by the huge response to their Coachella performances in April the duo is now on the road supporting Ellie Goulding on her ‘Delirium’ tour across the US.
