SG Lewis has premiered a unique, skate-themed new video to latest single ‘Holding Back’ (featuring Gallant), which is out now and impacts on August 19th via PMR/Virgin EMI. ‘Holding Back’ is the latest track to be lifted from SG’s forthcoming ‘Yours’ EP, and has already picked up plays across the board at Radio 1, 1Xtra and Beats 1, entered Hype Machine and the Spotify Viral Charts, as well as seeing the young singer, songwriter, DJ and producer surpass 20 million Spotify streams.
Having played a series of sold-out London shows – and quickly becoming a fixture of the festival circuit, including a packed-out Glastonbury show – SG Lewis has also confirmed details of his first club night, ‘PARALLELS’ – this will take place on August 4th at London’s Phonox, and feature a DJ set from Lewis alongside some very special guests. Directed by John Merizalde, the short film for ‘Holding Back’ documents the legendary Atlanta skate-park Cascade, and the unifying impact of skate-culture on the local area. “What immediately stuck out to me,” Merizalde recalls now, having grown up in Atlanta, “was the energy: the Cascade crowd was diverse, the music was electric, and the movement was contagious. I realized this wasn’t just a place to skate; it was a subculture, a community.” This is given a fitting, lasting tribute by SG in the video for ‘Holding Back’, with the palpable sexiness of the Gallant-featuring track perfectly complimenting the smoothness of Cascade skaters. “A massive thanks to all the skaters who lent their energy and moves to the video,” Lewis adds, “and helped convey the natural vibe of this amazing place.”
Having started out DJ’ing at Liverpool’s notorious Chibuku to making music from his bedroom for PMR’s Beat Club, and then watching breakout track ‘Warm’ snowball internationally (it was also the most Shazam’d track across all of US television last year) – ‘Holding Back’ continues SG Lewis’ immersive exploration of club-culture.
