Today, Noisey is excited to exclusively debut The Strokes’ brand-new music for “Threat of Joy.” Drawn from their new EP — the band’s first release in three years — the song finds the band back together in a music video for the first time in five years.

Directed by long-term artistic cohort Warren Fu (who’s worked extensively with everyone from Daft Punk to Snoop Dogg to HAIM to Weezer), the video veers between the random and the surreal, with mystery, subterfuge, and intrigue all blended together in a bewilderingly intricate plot.

The “Threat of Joy” music video comes on the heels of the release of Future, Present, Past, The Strokes’ brand new EP. Out now on on Cult Records, the album is available for purchase now.

VICE started Noisey back in 2011, criss-crossing the globe documenting the year in music from heavy-hitters to tiny garage bands who usually play for their girlfriends and moms. Since then, it has grown into one of the most unique and successful video-driven music sites on the planet. In 2012, Noisey teamed with YouTube as a premium content provider, and built out a series of shows that take a completely fresh take on the world of music. As an editorial resource, Noisey.com reaches millions of people a month, and has become a go-to source for weird music news, artist-sourced content, and VICE’s signature offbeat coverage. Noisey throws parties and shows worldwide, hosts innovative online listening parties for new records, and produces videos for the best artists in the world, like MIA, Die Antwoord, A$AP Rocky, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Noisey is more than just a music site—music is the lens with which we explore youth culture all over the world.

The Strokes are a multi-platinum American rock band formed in New York City in 1998, consisting of Julian Casablancas (lead vocals), Nick Valensi (guitars), Albert Hammond Jr. (guitars), Nikolai Fraiture (bass) and Fabrizio Moretti (drums).

Cult Records is an independent record label based in New York, founded and run by Julian Casablancas. Releases include The Strokes, Julian Casablancas+The Voidz, Albert Hammond Jr., Karen O, and more. The newly launched website now includes a comprehensive store featuring both exclusive Cult titles and non-exclusive releases, books, merch, and more, all personally curated by Casablancas. In addition, the site also features an online radio station and editorial component with news coverage, long form features, interviews, and photo galleries, as well as a section where fans can discover new artists, music, videos, and more.
