Thundercat – Them Changes (2015)

Thundercat just released the first video from widely praised new mini-album The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam. Watch the samurai-inspired, heartbreaking visual for funk-filled first single “Them Changes,” directed by Carlos Lopez Estrada who said…

“Thundercat’s take on heartbreak is so atypical that I figured the video for the song should be anything but a classic relationship-gone-wrong story. Stories like athletes’ careers ending after injuries or artists losing their site/hearing/ability to perform; these concepts are truly heartbreaking. I also know that Thundercat has a thing for samurais, so I saw an opportunity to make everyone happy here. Or everyone sad, I guess.”

The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam is the first new solo material in two years from Thundercat. The follow-up to his sonically adventurous and widely praised second album Apocalypse was recently named ‘Best New Music’ by Pitchfork and sees Thundercat team back up with longtime sparring partner Flying Lotus (whom he recently played a headline set at Glastonbury with). The legendary Herbie Hancock also pops up on keyboards on “Lone Wolf & Cub,” and there are contributions from Kamasi Washington, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Mono/Poly.
