Tom Figgins – Giants Played In Woods Like These
Tom Figgins – Giants Played In Woods Like These (2015)
Directed by: Niall Kerry
Given his achievements to date – is hard to believe that Tom Figgins is still only 24 years old. At only 19 he started working alongside producer Bob Cranham (whose previous artists include Newton Faulkner) to bring out his debut EP Your Place. His second release Wake Up achieved great critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic and resulted in Nick Stewart (the man who signed U2 to Island Records) co-managing Tom alongside Bob.
Since then Tom has been developing his sound in front of audiences at live dates across the UK – including his collaboration at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe; co-writing and performing in the critically acclaimed play ‘The Duck Pond’ which also featured his track ‘Mother’. More recently he has been working in the studio with Matt “Urby Whale” Owens, bass player from Noah And The Whale. As if that wasn’t enough, Tom also found the time to release the singles Let Your Roots Grow and Rain On Me.
Now, hot on the heels of his appearance at Chris Evans’ recent music festival at The Mulberry Pub in Chiddingfold, an appearance at Evan’s Carfest and a live session on his Radio 2 show, Tom releases his brand new single Giants Played In Woods Like These on Friday 2nd October.
The video was shot by visionary video Director Niall Kerry who, with a strong background in Design and Art Direction, developed the concept for the video to ‘Giants…’ into a beautiful, magical ethereal woodland vista. The idea was use the woods to visually represent the space which we grow up in- and this is made personal to Tom by having the imagery of the woods projected onto him as well as merging him with the background. As Tom says:
” ‘Giants’ is a song about growing up. It’s about looking back and feeling like the unrelenting passing of time has distorted your memories and with it comes a realisation that your past is out of reach”.
The result is nothing short of beautiful and the music and visuals lull you immediately into a dream-like, reflective mind set.
