We Are The Ocean – Holy Fire (2015)

Directed by: Lewis Knaggs

We Are The Ocean today unveil the video for their new single ‘Holy Fire’, a strikingly cinematic, stark tale of survival, set in a post apocalyptic wilderness. Fusing elements of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road with a gritty British realism of Shane Meadow’s Dead Man’s Shoes, the video perfectly compliments the epic, widescreen ambition of ‘Holy Fire’. Featuring a cameo from the Essex based four-piece – Liam Cromby (vocals), Alfie Scully (guitar), Jack Spence (bass) and Tom Whittaker (drums) – the video was directed by Lewis Knaggs.

The track is taken from their current album ‘Ark’ (out now on BMG Chrysalis), a record that sees We Are The Ocean return to the UK rock scene they helped propel from niche concern into mainstream acceptance with an ambitious, beefed up new sound.

With the release of ‘Holy Fire’, We Are The Ocean take a step back from their fast paced, sweat drenched releases, swapping their distortion pedals for a swirl of ambient delays and festival sized choruses. In Liam’s own words: –

“Holy Fire came about towards the end of our two months in the studio, recording the album last summer. Inspired by the film ‘Into The Wild’ we felt like we were about to embark on our own exciting journey. I love the way the strings weave around the lyrics. They make the song really epic”.

Having cut their teeth in the baptism of fire that is the US Vans Warped Tour, before graduating to the festival circuit and supporting Muse on their European stadium tour, Ark (out now on BMG Chrysalis) is the sound of a band coming of age.
