Sticks and Stones is the debut single by American country artist Tracy Lawrence, released in November 1991 as the title track from his first album. Written by Elbert West and Roger Dillon, the song is a mid-tempo ballad where the narrator tells his departing lover she can take all the material possessions, but her words have caused him the deepest pain. The song became Lawrence’s first Number One hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in January 1992. The accompanying music video, directed by Richard Jernigan, features Lawrence performing the song intercut with narrative scenes that reflect the song’s themes of heartbreak and resilience.
